Overview

So you want a Career in Construction!

Bricklaying is a key trade in the Construction Industry. A Bricklayer will build and maintain a range of structures including internal and external walls on new houses and commercial projects, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative work such as archways and garden walls. This will all be carried out using the tools and the materials of the trade.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your target qualification will depend on which programme you are on.

NVQ LEVEL 1 IN BRICKLAYING or the FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION AWARD

This course is available through the Training for Success programme under options for Skills for Your Life & Skills for Work. It is an introductory course looking at building skills erecting brick and blockwork structures.

INTERMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION AWARD

The course is available in the Training for Success Pre-Apprenticeship programme and ApprenticeshipNI programmes. It will cover a wide range of skill areas in bricklaying including setting out, building to line, construction of corners and arches and damp proofing. It will provide you with the knowledge & understanding to carry out an effective role as a tradesperson.

NVQ LEVEL 2 IN TROWEL OCCUPATIONS

The course is available in the Training for Success Pre-Apprenticeship programme and ApprenticeshipNI programmes. This is your trade qualification that will allow you to be recognised as a bricklayer. You will be assessed in the full range of skills in bricklaying while working on site.
